DIY with KAMSnaps: Easy Fabric Bracelet

April 24, 2013

Hello, hello, time for a new DIY! ;) Maybe you have already noticed that I have a new sponsor – welcome, Snaply! :) – and apart from advertising on my blog, Snaply sent me a package with lots of awesome things from their shop that I’ve chosen in order to show you what to make with their products. This tutorial will be the first of five posts telling you what to use KAMSnaps for. These are colorful plastic snaps which you can use for many different projects and they are so useful – can’t wait to show you all of my ideas. So here we go with the first project, a sewing DIY for a fabric bracelet. :)

What you need:
– KAMSnaps, a KAMSnap plier and a bradawl
– Fabric
– Paper for the pattern
– Scissors (for fabric and paper)
– A sewing machine

First of all, make yourself a pattern according to the shape above. You just need to find out your arm’s size and cut out the pattern according to it. It has to be long enough that you can easily put it around your arm and that both endings can overlap to close the bracelet. Concerning the width, you can simply decide how wide you want the bracelet to be, mine is 3cm wide (and don’t forget to include the seam allowances of about 0,5cm).
After you have prepared your pattern, use it to cut out fabric twice, one piece for the front, one piece for the back.

Next, put both layers of fabric onto each other, right sides facing. Sew them onto each other (sew close to the edges) and leave a small opening (on the photo on the left bottom corner between my fingers) to finally fold it inside out. Then cut out little triangles at the seam allowances of the round sides so that you can easily fold the fabric inside out.

Now iron your piece of fabric and by sewing around the whole piece (close to the egde), you can neaten the edges. That makes it even prettier. Then take the middle of the piece of fabric and fold it like shown on the photo in the right middle. Use a piece of yarn to wrap it around and close it with a knot. Then cut out a small piece of fabric (about 6cm wide and 9cm long) which you will use to hide the yarn.

Iron the piece of fabric like it is shown above so that you finally have a smaller strip (about 1,5 wide).

Fix the strip by neatening the edges with a seam and sewing the layers of fabric onto each other. Now fold the fabric strip around the bracelet and use your sewing machine to close the endings. In case they are too long, shorten them before sewing them onto each other (use a zig-zag stitch for that).

Fold the fabric strip inside out so that the endings with the zig-zag stitch are on the inside and aren’t visible anymore. That’s how it is supposed to look! :) Then figure out where you want the snaps to be at the endings of the bracelet (depending on how tight you want the bracelet to be) and use your bradawl to make two holes where you can put the snaps through.

Push the snaps through the holes (according to the instructions on the package) and your’re done, yay! :))

That’s it!

Have fun with this DIY and in case you’re making such a breacelet yourself, feel free to post a link, I’d love to see your version! :)
Happy sewing, Lu :)

Pink, Green and Polka Dots – Goodbye Winter Outfit

April 22, 2013

Coat: asos
Dress: h&m
Tights and earrings: unknown
Boots: Zara
Scarf: handmade
Bag: Roland
Watch: Casio, xmas present by Flo :*
Ring: gift by Flo :)
Necklace: handmade gift by Anja :)
Nailpolish: essie (cute as a button)

Hello! :) More than one week ago, my sweet best friend Anja and I spent our Saturday walking around, eating ice cream and taking outfit photos. It didn’t feel like spring, yet, but it felt like the end of winter was over, the air was fresh and warm, it smelled so good and the sun was there all the time, so I regard this outfit as a goodbye winter outfit. :) In the meantime (between we took those photos and today), I have already worn sandals and light summer dresses, which means that warmer days have already come, feels so good! :)
On the day we took the outfit photos, I wore my beloved pink coat, green accessories and my extremely beloved new white dress with black polka dots (I had been searching for such a dress for a really long time!! :)).

This green bag is so pretty, I like it a lot.

The coral necklace once was a handmade gift I got from Anja. :)

One of my favorite dresses!! :)

Aww, the watch, Flo got it for me last xmas, I love it!

Bye, bye, winter, welcome spring! :)

Handmade baby things.

April 21, 2013

Hello and happy & sunny Sunday! :) Here’s what I recently sewed, baby things for our friends who are having the cutest little boy! :)

I made a dribble bib with squirrel and car fabric, an apple application and yellow towel fabric on the back, soo cute! :)

Moreover, I made my first piece of baby clothing! Because it was only a little, rather spontaneous sewing experiment, I didn’t have a real sewing pattern and made one myself. I think the pants turned out quite well (with normal cotton fabric on the outside and really soft fabric on the inside), but they are slightly too small for the baby I made it for (wow, how fast babies are growing!! :D) and at the bottom of the pants, I didn’t leave enough space for the diaper. :D But since I love learning by doing, I will simply make it better next time. :)

Because of the elastic blue fabric which you can fold over, the pants can grow with the baby. :)
Hope you are having a great day, I will spend my afternoon eating ice cream. :D During the next days, I will hopefully manage to upload some of my latest projects of which I’ve already taken lots of photos, but there’s currently so little time and I wish I had more time for blogging, but that’s how it is at the moment. :) For those of you who want daily updates, simply follow me on Instagram (@luloveshandmade). :)

New postcards and posters of my illustrations.

April 16, 2013

Hello! :) Awwww, I’ve got a little shop update for you! A few days ago, I finally got my new kitty illustration printed and you can now buy it as postcard or as poster in my DaWanda shop. :)

This kitty is so cute and I’m absolutely happy to have found a place where I can even print designs in a really small edition and don’t have to order too many prints of one design. This makes it more flexible and offers totally new possibilities for me. Can’t wait to print more designs! :)

Which color is your favorite one? There’s yellow, rose, pink, turquoise, peppermint and apple green. :)
Happy sunny week!! :)

Happy Pastel Winter Outfit

April 12, 2013

Coat and triangle ring: asos
Dress: only (via Vero Moda)
Tights: unknowm
Shoes: Tamaris
Scarves and feather ring: h&m
Handbag: Primark
Belt: pieces (via Vero Moda)
Earrings: Fräulein Wildkirsch via DaWanda (birthday gift by my sweet friend Sarah :))
White faux leather bracelet: handmade
Geometrical necklace(s): c/o Koo

Hellooo and happy weekend! :) Awww, it’s slowly getting warmer outside and last weekend we finally managed to take some outfit photos outside, oh, how I missed this! :)
As you know, I love colors and even when it’s grey outside, I really like being dressed in colorful layers of clothes. This coat has been my constant companion this winter and has made me happy each time wearing it. :)

Those earrings are just too cute! I had them on my wishlist this winter and one of my friends got them for me as a birthday present. :) They are handmade and from DaWanda.

I recently got to know Maggie who runs the brand-new DaWanda-shop Koo and because we like each other’s style / products a lot, we decided on a small cooperation. She let me choose two of her pretty wooden geometrical necklaces to show it to you in an outfit post. :) I really love the colors which perfectly match my style and I also like the geometrical shapes she has chosen for her items. More can be seen in her shop Koo! :)

When I saw this bag, I immediately fell in love with it and definitely had to take it with me!

I love this dress a lot, mostly because it is so super wide at the bottom and thus has a super cute shape.

This one is the second necklace that I have chosen from Maggie’s shop, so pretty!

I only wear higher shoes rather seldomly, but those are super comfortable and in such a great color!

This was fun! Can’t wait for spring to come and to take lots of photos in colorful dresses when wearing all my matching leggings and tights again!! :D
Happy weekend, enjoy the sunshine!
