Favorite Restaurants and Cafes: Lu Loves Belmundo

November 13, 2013

Hello everyone! Here’s a new blogpost as addition to my Potsdam guide blog feature and as a new episode of my series of favorite restaurants and cafés.
Belmundo is one of my favorite places in Potsdam for having a delicious snack and for enjoying the nice atmosphere. It’s not only a restaurant and café, but also a place for shopping: they sell handmade items by local creatives and they support local art.

Apart from some sweet treats, Belmundo offers two main kinds of food: Portuguese croissants (sweet and savory) and Kumpir. The latter is my favorite: potatoes baked with cheese and then filled in all kinds of different variations, for example in Greek style with olives, feta, onions, and so on, or in Indian style with curry sauce. Mhhh, each time it’s hard to decide which one to take!

Moreover, I do not only count this place to my favorites because of the good food, but also because of the super pretty interior. You might probably know that I’m a sucker for pretty vintage furniture and Belmundo is full with this. The beautiful counter, the tables, chairs, old cabinets; all these things make me happy when eating there.

Mhhhh, the croissants, heavenly!

When it’s not too cold, you can also sit outside in front of the pretty old building.

So this is a place I can totally recommend when visiting Potsdam and writing this blog post made my mouth water, can’t wait to go there again pretty soon! :)

Happy day!
Lu

A Handmade Welcome Baby Package

November 9, 2013

Hello and happy weekend! This is a package I made for my oldest friend and his family, he had just become the father of a precious little baby girl. :)

One of the presents was a baby onesize I handstamped with tiny cats.

This felt mobile is so damn cute, I got inspired by this one and made my own version of it.

Moreover, I included a handmade pouch for the mommy to fill it with baby stuff.

Another handstamped piece, a fabric bag. :)

Moreover, I sewed an easy hat for the baby and made a crochet basket for the nursery.

The last piece of the Welcome Baby Package was this cute raindrop rattle, DIY coming soon.

This was fun! I love working on projects like this and I love making friends happy! :)
Enjoy your weekend!

Favorite Shops: Lu Loves Texstile

November 6, 2013

Hello my dear readers! Today I want to present you another shop which I really like, it’s part of the series with all my favorite shopping places.
Although Texstile has already been featured in my detailed Potsdam Guide I published a few weeks ago, it deserves a blog post on its own, because to me it’s important to support this business and the people behind it, I’m gonna tell you why:
Those of you who have already been reading my blog for quite a while, might remember that I have been working in a pretty fabric store in Potsdam for 1 1/2 years. It was about one year ago that I quit my job there to start my social media internship for DaWanda, but I left with a heavy heart, leaving a super pretty working environment and the very best, absolutely kind, attentive and sympathetic colleagues behind me! About four months after I had left, the owner closed the fabric store where I had been working, but the good thing about this was that my former colleague Antje – who is a textile designer and had already been running her own store and a textile workshop in the past – then started working on opening her very own fabric store and Texstile was born. Now Potsdam has a super pretty new fabric store with everything one desires and she even employs my other former colleague, yay!!

So Potsdam finally has an extremely pretty new place for shopping fabric, sewing supplies and for visiting sewing classes for beginners and advanced, hooorrayyy!

Antje, the owner and founder of Texstile, offers a wide range of colorful ribbons, zippers and all kinds of fabrics for sewing clothes or for decorative purposes.

The fabric store is located in a historical building directly in Potsdam’s city center and filled with all kinds of colorful and pretty things that one could need for a sewing project.

I’m really really happy for Antje that she could fulfill her dream of running an own fabric store and sewing school (and she’s so talented, she has already been giving sewing classes for some years) and that she and my other former colleague are now working together. :)

So if you are in Potsdam and are into sewing, you should definitely go there, you’ll find all kinds of pretty supplies and textiles and shopping there is the perfect way to support a new business that is totally worth it and which is run with lots of love and passion!

DIY: Kids Memory on Cardboard Coasters

November 5, 2013

Hello, hello, here’s a DIY for a present for little kids. :) You won’t need many supplies and this easy DIY memory game is a great gift for your own kids or for those of your friends and it has a super personal touch.

You need:
Black pens / felt tips
Plain white cardboard coasters
Colorful pens

First of all, make a few sketches: collect ideas for items you want to draw on your coasters and try out your pens to figure out which works best on your cardboard surface and which has the best tip.

Then draw lots of cute symbols, items and motifs of kid’s everyday life, use imagery which are interesting for their basic language aquisition so that this memory game can also serve as educational game. After having chosen many cute symbols, draw each one twice and then color all of them.

That’s it, so easy! Keep the symbols and motifs rather simple so that it’s easy for small children to recognize what’s on their memory game. :)

After having finished all of your game cards, you could also sew a simple gift bag (gift bag sewing DIY here) to store the card in there.

My memory was part of the birthday present set for our friend’s cute son who has just turned one. :)
Happy crafting and drawing!

Christmas DIYs and Decor Inspiration

November 4, 2013

Hello friends! Only 50 days left until it’s Christmas, wowza! Time is flying by so incredibly fast, feels like summer had just gone and winter hasn’t started, yet, but soon the smell of gingerbread and roasted almonds will be in the air, we will all be looking for special presents for our loved ones and will be decorating our homes, yay! Can’t wait for the most wonderful time of the year to come!
To perfectly get prepared for this upcoming season and to inspire you a little bit, here are some of my past Christmas DIY projects, decor ideas and handmade gifts for you.
Above there’s the handmade Advent calendar I made for Anja last year.

You want to stamp on your Advent calendar, on presents, on gift tags or on holiday postcards? Here’s my DIY for Christmas rubber stamps.

Need a tutorial for four different kinds of holiday postcards?

Here’s my idea for how to make and display a pretty Advent calendar for the guy you love. :)

An easy DIY for Advent candles.

Pretty white and bright winter decoration with painted branches.

This is a handmade fabric gift bag DIY.

You want to sew your own Saint Nicholas stockings? Here’s my stocking sewing DIY.

Such a pretty decor idea which even smells like Christmas, sewn fabric trees with cinnamon sticks.

Last but not least, this year’s winter wonderland Advent calendar DIY with even a video for how to make it. :)

Have lots of fun working on Christmas and winter projects! :)
