Eeeks, my DIY is on the German DaWanda blog.

May 29, 2012

Hello!! :) Yayyy, good news, today you can find one of my DIY projects on the German DaWanda Blog (for those of you who don’t know DaWanda, it’s similar to etsy, it’s an online marketplace for everything handmade). :) I have been invited to share my tutorial for how to stamp totes with natural materials, because on DaWanda there’s the ‘family month’, a month full of projects for children and parents. :)
Maybe you want to take a look at the blog, just click here. :)
I’m so happy about this, thanks again for asking me! :)

Felt Pinwheel DIY

May 27, 2012

Hello!! :) This weekend I’ve done lots of crafting (I always reward myself after I’ve done some studying :)) and I’ve been sooo productive. I sewed some new pillow cases, a skirt, worked on some birthday present ideas and I made those awesome felt pinwheels. :) My new colleague Kathleen visited me and I showed her how to make those wheels, we spent several hours on producing them, it’s highly addictive! :) She also took the photos on which you can see both of my hands (a bit difficult to press the shutter release while attaching buttons… ;)).

So here’s what you need to make those pretty pinwheels:
– Lots of colourful felt (but you could also make them from cardboards)

– Needle and thread
– Buttons in different colors
– A hot glue gun or multi-purpose glue
– Tiny wooden rods (I used those which one normally uses as shish kebab skewer)

Cut out a rectangle of a size you like, make a cut at each of the corners of the piece of felt like in the second photo and then fold it like you can see above.

Next, use needle and thread to fix the tips and to attach them to the midde of the pinwheel.

Do the same with as many pieces of felt as you want. :) We had a total craze for making them and really couldn’t stop and everything was so colorful. <3

After attaching the tips to the middle, choose matching buttons.

Again use needle and thread and sew the buttons onto the middle of the pinwheels. :)

Yay, looks so pretty!

Finally, use a hot glue gun or  multi-purpose glue to attach the tiny wooden sticks to the back of the pinwheels so that you can put them into flower beds, flowerpots or stick them into the lawn (for example for a garden party, I think this would look really pretty! ;)). Afterwards, cut out a small piece of felt and glue this onto the back, too, so that it looks neat. And then you’re done! :)
We had so much fun making those wheels, let me know if you try this out, too, and don’t forget to share photos! :) I think this is also lots of fun for doing this with children, because it’s so easy and so colorful (of course only with older children who don’t hurt themselves while using the gun or while playing with the sticks… :)).

Wish you a happy day!
Lu

Everything Else

A place I really love.

May 24, 2012

Hello! :) I hope you were having a good week so far! :) Mine was pretty good, a bit of studying and working and lots of sunshine and nice things, such as sewing, sitting outside, delicious food and an evening bike tour with Flo. <3
Where I currently spend lots of time is our balcony. Everything grows so fast and I can’t believe that I can already use plenty of  herbs which I’ve grown myself, that’s simply awesome! :) Not only the herbs are growing, but also the sunflowers, it’s so much fun to watch them becoming bigger every day. :) It feels so good to sit outside, it’s the perfect oasis and I love eating outside or watering the plants after work to relax. :)
What about you? I’ve seen that some of you are growing their own plants, too, and some even have a garden (that’s awesome, even better than a balcony, no question! :)), do you have as much fun as I have? :)

Yay, soon the weekend starts, lots of time to sit on the balcony (and study :D)! :)
Have fun,
Lu
