Crafty Christmas Blogger Party Sweet Table

December 8, 2012

Hi everyone, happy Saturday! :) Here’s the sweet table I made last week, today I want to share some photos with you.
Last weekend I invited some of my favorite blogger friends and hosted a tiny Christmas craft party (photos of the party itself coming in a few days… :)). People who have been reading my blog for a while know that I love preparing parties, including a matching decor and tasty food.
As always, I made sketches, thought about a color concept, decided for food which I wanted to buy and prepared decor elements. :)

The food in the huge bowl on the lower left corner of the photo is the only part of the sweet table which is homemade (I’m gonna share a recipe another time), all the other things are from my favorite bakery in town and from the supermarket. Due to a lack of time, I decided to rather concentrate on the decor and on the crafty party projects than to concentrate on preparing lots of homemade food.
We were having mulled wine, tea, spiced cookies, a cake, cinnamon stars, gingerbread and many other sweet things.
We also had another table with homemade salads (a green salad and a noodle salad) and tiny mediterranean baguettes. Hmmm, lots of delicious food!

(those three photos were taken by Vivi, but edited by me :))

As you can see, I made tiny toppers which look like mittens. I found the idea on Pinterest, sooo cute!

I sewed Christmas stockings and a Christmas bunting for decor, sooo pretty. Some weeks ago I collected branches in the woods, painted them white, put them in vases and used them to hang Christmas balls. Moreover, I made huuuuge confetti and put it on the wall (idea found on Pinterest).

(those two photos were taken by Vivi, but edited by me :))

Hmmm, all that food was not only tasty, but sooo pretty to look at.
Have you ever thrown a Christmas themed party?
How do you like my sweet table? :)

What I Wore: Baby, it’s cold outside.

December 6, 2012

Coat & tunique: Blutsgeschwister
Cardigan, scarf and wrist warmers: H&M
Mittens: New Yorker
Bag: pieces
Shoes: osco
Leg warmers: Hess Natur
Measurement tape flower brooch: handmade gift from Tagträumerin :-*

Hello and happy St. Nicholas Day! :) It’s pretty cold outside and time for really cozy clothes. When Flo and I went out for a walk a few days ago, I wore several layers of pretty things and wanted to show you my current favorite winter outfit. :)
I love this coat I bought this fall, because its color reminds me of Robin Hood and its shape reminds me of Little Red Riding Hood, so it’s kind of a fairy tale coat for me. :)

The mittens were a gift from my mother last year, I saw them while we
were shopping in my old hometown and I immediately fell in love with
them, especially with the pretty pattern. (photo inspired by Stefanie’s pretty mitten-before-face-photo :))

Last weekend when my lovely bloggers pals visited me, sweet Laura
brought me the super pretty brooch she made me as a gift, soo pretty. :)
In case you want to make one yourself, there’s a tutorial on her blog!

Wish you a super lovely day!

How to Sew a Christmas Stocking

December 5, 2012

Hello my lovely readers! Tomorrow is St. Nicholas Day and in case you need inspiration for a last minute stocking DIY, here’s a tutorial for how to make one.

fabric courtesy of modes4u

In late summer, a nice lady of modes4u has written me an e-mail and suggested a little cooperation, they then sent me all those pretty Christmas fabrics I chose so that I can show you what to make with them. For this tutorial, I didn’t want to use classy Christmas colors, I rather wanted to make a stocking in candy colors and this is why I chose the pretty fabric in turquoise displaying a bright winter wonderland (more other designer fabrics can be found here). :)

What you will need for this project:
– Two different pieces of fabric
– A ribbon
– A zig zag ribbon
– Sewing supplies
– Paper and pencil to make a pattern

Draw the shape of a stocking and make it a little bit higher (longer) than you actually want it to be. Then cut it into two pieces like I did so that you have to different patterns for the top part and the lower part (including the seam allowances). Next, put the top part onto the left side of the fabric, once for the front, once for the back. Then do the same with the lower part of the pattern.

As you’ve already done it with the top part of the pattern, also use the lower part to draw it onto the back side of the fabric and then cut it out. You should now have four pieces which look like the ones on the top left photo, two pieces for the top part (front and back) and two pieces for the lower part (front and back). Put them onto each other (at the part where the seam allowances are), right sides facing each other and then sew them onto each other (at the point where there will be the approximate middle of the stocking).

After sewing the top and bottom part onto each other, use a zig zag stitch to neaten the seam allowances and iron them. Do this each with the front and the back of your stocking and add the zig zag ribbon (where the seam is). Next, put both sides onto each other, right sides facing, and use pins to attach them to each other.

Sew both sides onto each other and finally use a zig zag stitch to neaten the seam allowances. Then, as a last step, fold over the top part of your stocking two times (like on the lower left photo) so that one can’t see the edge anymore and then topstitch and include a ribbon which you can use to hang up the stocking.

That’s it! :) In case you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them in the comment section below. :)
Happy sewing!
