My Life In Instagram Photos: Hello Summer!

July 27, 2013

Hello! :) It’s been a while since my last blog post with Instagram photos from my everyday life, so there’s a lot to catch up. All photos have been taken between the end of May and the end of July, so here we go:

Frozen yoghurt after work.

An abandoned train station we visited during a bike tour. // The Havel and boats in Potsdam. // A break during a bike tour. // Our balcony. :* // Yummy, waffles and fruit salad. // Hello!

Blue, green and yellow. // Sunset walk with Mogli.

Flo made pizza, mmmhh! // Turkish dinner. // Taking outfit photos. // Homemade raspberry lemonade. // One of my favorite vintage dresses. // All those strawberries are from our balcony!

A superhero themed party for all DaWanda employees I organized with the help of three other colleagues. The photo corner was the best thing! :) // Happy feet, matching shoes.

I love strawberries!

Greedy Mogli. // Pretty kitchen. // Strawberry cake. // Mhhm, sweet strawberry dessert, blogpost coming soon. // We were having a little pool on the balcony at work to cool down our feet during breaks. :) // Smurf.

Sunny day it Potsam. // Sunday at the Mauerpark with listening to karaoke and watching Anja being happy on a swing. // Best burger at Fräulein Burger.

I bought a colorful sunchair and a parasol. // Flo patiently taking outfit photos of me. // Mogli got colorful dots. You’re soon gonna see why. :) That was fun, for him and for us! // Mhhhh, Spanish tapas dinner with my colleagues from DaWanda’s social media team. // Awwww, happy happy mail day!! Juli of heimatPOTTential sent me the greatest summer package and made my day!! ;* // Restyled vintage summer dress.

Preparing food for our picnic.

I made a gorgeous summer picnic. :)

Fresh wild flowers for my mother. // Floral pattern and handmade bow belt. // Fresh organic food to cook dinner for my mama. :) // All these organic tomatoes (six different kinds!) were harvested on our balcony!

The prettiest cafe for having lunch with my mama. // Happy feet with my Saltwater Sandals. // In the woods with happy Mogli. // My sweet birthday boy at the lake. // Ohhh, this smell! // Wearing my beloved striped summer shirt which makes me look as if I was selling ice cream.

Yum!

I love my Potsdam! We had a great day walking around with our friends. :)

There’s nothing better than spending hot summer days at the lake. // What I wore. // Potsdam’s Dutch quarter. // Werder, a pretty town at the water and next to Potsdam. // Ice cream date with Anja.

Perfect hot day with two of my favorite people: mini boat trip with Flo and Anja. We lazily enjoyed the sun and happily jumped into the water. ;)

How are you spending those hot summer days?

Recipe: Mediterrannean Summer Bagel

July 26, 2013

Hello, hello! :) Here’s the first little recipe from my summer picnic. Of course, this is no complicated cooking recipe, but rather meant as inspiration for a tasty picnic treat. :) As a savory snack, I made this delicious mediterrannean summer bagel and here’s how you can make it, too. :)

You will need:
– Bagels (with sesame)
– Fresh rocket salad and fresh tomatoes
– Goat cheese in slices, parmesan cheese slices and herb cream cheese
– Pine nuts and salt and pepper

Cut your bagel, spread the herb cream cheese all over it, put some leaves of rocket salad onto it. Then, add slices of goat cheese and parmesan cheese, put some fresh tomatoes and pine nuts on top and add salt and pepper.
Enjoy!

Have a great summer day! Lu

Lu Loves Indie Labels – BlĂĽtezeit Berlin.

July 24, 2013

Hello, hello! Remember my outfit post with that awesome green hoodie? :) It was handmade by BlĂĽtezeit Berlin, the indie label I want to introduce in this blogpost! :) Back in spring, I got to know Kristin, the label’s owner, and she suggested a cooperation. I was invited to visit her in her shop and studio, I chose two great handmade pieces of clothing from her label, tooks lots of photos and then I asked her lots of questions about her work so that you and I can get to know her better. Since Luloveshandmade is an indepentent label, too (although I’m currently more focused on my blog than on selling handmade items), I find it always super interesting to get to know more about other people’s work. :) So here’s what I can tell you about BlĂĽtezeit Berlin.

Kristin Jacob, the owner and founder of BlĂĽtezeit Berlin, is a fashion designer who came to Berlin in 2005 in order to become an Assistant of Fashion and Design. Afterwards, she studied fashion design at the University of Applied Sciences and in the meantime, she has already been starting her own brand. In her spare time, she loves travelling, reading, skateboarding, and yoga and of course, making clothes. Almost everything in her wardrobe is made by herself. Since the beginning of this year, she is a mum. Being a mother now is her most important job and the best thing which could have happened to her.

Are you curious about how she got the idea to found an independent business? :) Kristin has known for more than ten years that she wanted to work independently one day. When she was sixteen years old, she was the intern at an advertising agency and has been sitting in front of the computer for eight hours a day. From that time on, she knew that this was not what she wanted to do for the rest of her life and that she needed more variety. The good thing about being self-employed is that it is often up to you how much you earn, because it depends on how hard you work. You can organize your day on your own and it´s always exciting because you never know what´s coming next. Of course, this is exhausting, too, she told me, because even in her spare time, Kristin thinks about work, too.

How did Blütezeit Berlin come to life? Well, Kristin told me that creating clothes has been her hobby for a long time. At the age of thirteen, she has been sitting at her mother’s sewing machine for the first time and then she started making clothes herself. Because her own wardrobe was too full because of all the clothes, she started selling them on DaWanda. When people started to buy them, she went on with creating new designs.

Kristin is the mother of a little daughter and being self-employed better allows her to balance motherhood and work. At the moment, she takes her baby daughter to work with her and it is made even easier because her studio and shop (which she shares with another designer) are at the same place. But off course, she currently works much less than before, because she enjoys the time with her baby and this inspires her a lot. What is really great is that in the future she then wants to design BlĂĽtezeit Berlin clothes for babies and kids.

When I asked Kristin about her favorite thing about designing clothes, she told me that she loved making cuts, looking for new fabrics and especially seeing the new design on the model or customer, seeing how good it fits and looks. When developing a new collection and starting the design process, she first chooses the colors of the collection and then she looks for inspiration. Next, she starts looking for fabrics and makes the first sketches. The new collections are always a mixture of old and well-liked designs and new color combinations and styles. Then Kristin starts sewing the first clothes of a collection and step by step, all the pieces are created.

What I also wanted to know was if Kristin had any advice for other people who want to become self-employed and want to found their own indie business, especially a fashion label. She told me what was most important is to be passionate about your work, because you are going to work a lot! Moreover, it’s not bad to have some knowledge about running a business, because most of the time, you will rather be a businessman (or woman :)) than a designer. Like Andy Warhol once said, “Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.”

So inspiring! I always love hearing other creative people’s stories and I’m always super impressed when people like Kristin spend their life with doing what they love!
What is more, I love the two pieces of clothing I was allowed to choose (the outfit post with the sweater can be see here and the outfit post with the dress can be seen here) and I especially love the cozy green streetstyle hoodie (on top of this blogpost), it’s so comfy and still so pretty and super carefully made and totally worth its price! :)

If you now have become curious and want to have a look at all of Kristin’s other pieces of handmade clothing, you can visit her website and shop and see more:

BlĂĽtezeit Berlin DaWanda Shop
Local store with some selected items: Duncker Strasse 86, 10437 Berlin

Have fun visiting her (virtual or local) shop and thank you again, Kristin! :)

A Summer Picnic in the Countryside

July 21, 2013

Hello, dear readers! It’s summer and I’m currently enjoying all those sunny and long days, filled with swimming in the lake, good food and quaility time with friends and family.

About two weeks ago, I was finally able to work on a little project I’ve been having in my mind for so long and which had been on my list for future summer projects for quite a while: Flo drove me (and four huge boxes of supples, food and photo props) to the countryside where I prettily set up a picnic. :)

I had been preparing decoration in advance, so there were colorful pompoms hanging from the trees and I also had brought handmade cake toppers and other pretty details to make the picnic look extra pretty.

You know that I love color concepts and this time, I decided to combine pink / rose with turquoise and yellow (a color combination that I use quite often, because those colors belong to my favorites).

We were having bagels with fresh rocket salad, goat cheese, pine nuts, a homemade sauce and tomatoes.

I also made fresh lemonade with raspberries, lemon and mint and of course there can’t ever be a summer picnic without water melon pieces on a stick. :)

We had to wait a while until the sun went deeper so that I was able to take better photos without too harsh contrasts, but there are worst things than waiting on a perfect summer field with the smell of flowers, the sound of buzzing bees, the sun tickling your skin and a delicious picnic waiting for you. :)

Another thing that  I made were fruit sticks, there’s hardly anything more refreshing and more colorful.

I was super in love with the little picnic scenerey that I set up on that super sunny Sunday.

Mhhh!

One of my fave summer desserts ever are fruits in a jar with mascarpone & yoghurt cream on bisquits.

Super yummy! The recipe will be coming, soon! :)

Another thing that I made were lemon-vanilla cupcakes. I’m usually not so much into baking, but these ones turned out way better than I had expeced (recipe also coming soon) and I loved how they looked with my little handmade lemon toppers made from cardboard.

After I had taken all the photos for this blogpost, we had a super relaxing picnic and enjoyed all the good food, the perfect location and this great late summer afternoon! :) I’m super satisfied with how this setting has turned out and I’m super in love with all the little details and colors!
What do you think?

I never thought that preparing such a picnic for taking good photos would be so much effort, any food table being set up at home is way more relaxing, but when looking at those petty photos, it was definitely worth the effort! :)
Happy Sunday (maybe with a picnic? :))!
Lu

Sponsored supplies:

When I started planning the picnic, I wanted to include pretty paper dishes and asked Birgit of partyerie if she was interested in a little cooperation. :) So the following items were kindly sponsored by her so that I could include them into my picnic project and show them to you in this blogpost:

Turquoise honey combs: c/o partyerie
Dotted paper plates: c/o partyerie
Striped paper cupcake cups: c/o partyerie
Turquoise and white striped paper straws: : c/o partyerie

Thank you again for providing me with those pretty things! :)

If you are looking for pretty party supplies and decoration for your next food table, wedding or birthday party, you’ll find everything in Birgit’s shop. My own wishlist is way too long because of all the pretty items which make an ordinary event extra special with regard to dcoration. :)

Floral Vintage Dress Makeover

July 13, 2013

Dress: vintage, restyled
Bag: Roland
Hair bow: handmade
Earrings: unknown
Sandals: h&m

Hello! You know I love vintage clothes, right? :) At the beginning of the year, I found this pretty dress at a thrift shop for just a few Euros. I didn’t like its shape, but I immediately fell in love with the beautiful pattern. I love this floral print and its colors, so I had to take it with me. Then the dress has been hanging in my closet for a few months before I finally found the time to restyle it.

The original dress was long and had nice sleeves, but I didn’t like the shape of the dress.

I cut off the top of the dress and inserted a rubber strap. Now I have a super pretty strapless floral summer dress, it didn’t cost me much (just some time to alter it :)) and it’s really unique.

When we recently went to the Mauerpark in Berlin, Anja afterwards took those photos of me. :*
How to you like my dress? Or do you even like the original one better? :)
Happy day!
