Lu Loves Lemonade // A Trip to Bionade Headquarter

June 5, 2016

[Werbung:] Hello everyone! Last weekend, exciting things happened! Do you remember last summer when I made lemonade illustrations and free printables for a cooperation with Bionade?

This year, we are working together again and I was invited to visit the Bionade headquarter in central Germany, wohoo!

A Trip to The Middle of Germany

Last Sunday, I hopped onto a train and rode southwards to the middle of Germany. In Hesse, close to the border of Bavaria, there’s an area called Rhön. It’s a biosphere reservation and nature there is so pure and wonderful. The marketing team of Bionade and their blogger relations agency organized the journey for me and three other bloggers and booked our stay at a really speacial place: at night, we were sleeping in shepherd’s wagons in the middle of nowhere.

So so exciting! I was the first one to arrive and had plenty of time to explore everything.

The wagons are made of wood and smelled soooo good. The beds are super comfortable and everything is so cozy! My keyholder was shaped like a sheep and all the details were so pretty.

The light green / yellowish wagon was mine and a cat kept me company during my explorations. I got to try Bionade’s Streuobst lemonade (= Garden Fruits) and it totally tastes like summer and nature. The meadow with our wagons was also full of fruit trees and everything fit together perfectly.
In the evening, I had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, so good!

Drink fresh lemonade in summer!

After an adventurous night with a huge thunderstorm and masses of rain, we got up early and I took on my lemon shirt to get into the mood for lots of lemonade drinking. ;)

Mia of Kochkarussell and Jutta of Kreativfieber, we were neighbors during the night. :)

A Day at Bionade Headquarter

After a delicious organic breakfast, we drove through the mountains to the Bionade headquarter.

The day was super exciting and we all learned so much! One of the super charming and friendly Bionade employees gave us an all-day tour through the headquarter. We learned about the history of the company, about the philosophy and about the manufacturing process. Bionade is completely organic, the team who developed the lemonade has been working on the recipe for nearly one decade and now it is already being sold for twenty years.
Bionade is not just mixed by combining several ingredients. Instead, it is brewed and fermented and only little sugar is used. If you are interested in the manufacturing process in detail, you can inform yourself on the website. There is a basic mixture made of barley malt and natural acid (we even drank a little of it) and then the different natural lavors are added.

What is so special is that only natural ingredients are used and some of them are grown in Germany. See yourself on the map of ingredients.

The history of Bionade: here you can see some of the elder branding styles of Bionade. So much fun to see how much it has changed over the year. Do you still remember the old branding? :)

How Bionade is Being Made

The four of us – Mia, Jutta, Marie of Glitter Everywhere and I – explored the whole factory, saw where and how the boiling process takes place and where the next steps happen.
Once enough maltose has formed, everything is boiled up once more. That is then the Bionade zest which gets ready for the fermenter. As a next step, gluconic acid bacteria come into play. They are added to the water in the fermenter
with the Bionade zest that was formed during boiling so that the
maltose can turn into acid with the addition of oxygen. Gluconic acid is what gives Bionade its unique and unmistakeable flavour. In the end of the process, the flavor is added: you take the gluconic acid, organic juice, water from the Rhön valleys, a
pinch of sugar and carbon dioxide and mix it in healthy proportions.
And this is the only way to make Bionade. Mhhhh!

After the factory tour, we went to the lab and were invited to mix Bionade ourselves. We got the basic ingredients and the recipe for Zitrone-Bergamotte (= Lemon-Bergamot), mixed the proportions ourselves and were able to add fresh organic and local mint or elderflower. Mhh!

The team also prepared bottle labels for us, so I chose to make ‘Luloveslemonade’. :)

After having lunch at an old castle (you can see it in the right photo on the hill in the background), we drove a few kilometers to have a look at the elderberry plantations: for Bionade Holunder (= Elderberry) – which is the consumer’s fave flavor – the whole amount of elder is grown in the region around the company’s headquarter. There are about 100 plantations and everything is produced locally. Stunning!

We went there in the pouring rain, explored the farm and enjoyed the amazing view and beauty of nature.

Elderberries as far as the eye could see!

Dear Roger, thank you so much for the amazing day, showing us around everywhere and doing this with so much passion and enthusiasm! This was really contaguous! :)

What a day! And in the background bottle crates as far as the eye could see.

Every day, there are 20.000 bottles being produced in shifts of 16
hours per day. We even went to the factory building where the old
bottles are recycled, cleaned, then filled, closed, labelled and then
put into drink crates. So so exciting to watch! I learned so much on
this single day. Lifelong learning, so important!
Whoop whoop, I made a few bottles of my own lemonade: Luloveslemonade. So much fun! :)

Bionade’s Biosphere Tour through Germany:

In summer, Bionade will also be touring Germany and bring the biosphere and their delicious lemonade to your city:

You can learn about the brand, the biosphere and get inspired by natural beats. There’s going to be a bar, live-music and a chillout-area.
Tour dates:
– Hamburg: Altonale, Grüne Meile (July 16-17)
– Berlin: Veganes Sommerfest (August 19-21)
– Frankfurt am Main: Museumsuferfest (August 26-28)
So have a happy day, thanks for reading and enjoying the Bionade spirit with me!
Lu
P.S.: This blogpost was written for a cooperation with Bionade! Most of the photos were taken by myself, some of me and the tour are made by webguerillas. Thank you!

Colorful Outfit Ideas for Warm and Sunny Days

May 20, 2016

[Werbung:] Hello hello my dear readers! Have you recently seen my post about happy and colorful ideas for grey April days and my post with tipps for explorations and springtime discoveries? For both of them, I teamed up with OTTO for our Pinterest cooperation. Also part of this collaboration are my fellow bloggers Pinspiration and provinzkindchen, make sure to also read their posts! :)
So this time, it’s all about fashion and bright and colorful outfit ideas for warm and sunny days. Hooray, summer is about to come, so get out your fancy dresses and dare something new! Do it, step out of your comfort zone!
We made a Pinterest group board for you with summer outfits and creative ideas and to furher inspire you for your summer look, I am sharing some outfit ideas with you in this blogpost. Get colorful!

Outfit Inspiration for Summer

Try out something new and wear a completely different piece of clothing! For me, this was wearing dungarees for the first time in my adult life. Combined with a casual hat and a light yellow cardigan, this outfit is perfect for weekend activities or even as comfortable travel outfit. // Both photos taken by my pal Alexander Rentsch.
Wear candy colors: mix mint and pink, they perfectly go together. Black and white are a great addition. // Both photos taken by my sweet friend magnoliaelectric.
Mustard and cobalt blue go great together! Combine them with lots of white as a basis, in my case, I chose a patterned dress where you can also find the color concept.
Step out of your fashion comfort zone! When I was in Vienna two years ago, my friend Stef and I decided to swap signature styles and wear something in the look the other would normally wear. For me, this was a new red and white color concept and a more elegant look. This was awesome, because we both ended up to dare something new and had such a fun project! // Both photos taken by my sweet friend magnoliaelectric.
Make it fit and alter your clothes to your desires: when you see a (vintage) piece of clothing whose overall look you love, but which doesn’t really fit your shape, get out your sewing machine and alter it according to your needs!
Do color blocking and wear bold colorful elements! For this look, I combined pink tights with a green hoodie and separated both parts with a neutral stripy skirt.
Neon is awesome! For summer, colors can’t be bright enough, so try out something new and wear neon colors. If a whole dress is too much, try out tiny accessories first.
Try out unusual color combinations! To make your look more versatile, try out a color combination you haven’t worn before. You’ll be surprised how much fun this is! In my case, I combined the brightest yellow with lots of blue and I loved it!
Wear statement jewellery! For this summer look, I chose bright statement earrings matching the overall color concept of the outfit. // Both photos taken by my friend Squeaky Swing.
Color blocking also works with more elegant style elements! In this case, I combined an elegant raspberry-colored dress with casual cobalt blue sneakers and a clutch. // Both photos taken by my sweet friend magnoliaelectric.
Handmade flower crowns are the perfect summer accessory! // Both photos taken by my sweet friend magnoliaelectric.
Primary colors and bright patterns are a great eyecatcher! For this look, I combined a handmade strapless floral dress with a handmade bow belt and matching yellow wedges. One of my fave summer outfits ever.
So what will you try out next? :)
Check out our bright and colorful Pinterest board HeuteIstDerTag für Sommer (= today is the day for summer) and find ideas for a new summer look, travel destinations, discovery suggestions, freebies and DIY tutorials.

Luloveshandmade Blog Makeover 2016 – New Clean and Bright Look

May 12, 2016

Hello everyone! Yippie yippie yay, my blog has a new look! It has been two years since my last blog makeover and now it was time again.

See yourself what has changed and get insights into my redesign process. :)

First step – new photos:

As a very first step, I briefed my pal and fave photographer Alexander Rentsch and  spent one day with him taking photos for my blog, social media channels and professional portfolio. He made all my wishes come true and I am so super excited and happy about the results. Above you can see a selection of the photos I finally chose.

Choosing fonts:

To change my blog’s overall look, I wanted a new logo font. Due to my love for handlettering projects, I decided to take a font with a handwritten look, bought several ones and tried out a few favorites.

To make the choice easier, I also asked my friends and let them vote for their fave ones. Super helpful.

When I chose two final fonts, I made drafts for the overall blog, already building the header and some other elements, and also for my new business cards in order to find out which version I like best. I then decided on the right font. I like it a lot.

For my new business cards, I chose the confetti photo as main element, made a first draft and my bestie Anja who is a media designer later reworked it and made the final print file for me, eeeeks.

The makeover:

After choosing the fonts, color concept and main visuals, I made all elements in photoshop and implemented them into my blog step by step. I loved doing this process all by myself. And in case there were technical problems I struggled to overcome, my friends Sina and Anja were always a good help! :)
So here you can finally see the difference and the final result: I chose new fonts and a new color concept, decluttered the sidebar and the pages and added two new sites (handlettering & illustrations and freebies) with project overviews. Moreover, I implemented new photo material, updated my ‘about’ page and reworked my media kit with more detailed information, a look fitting my new blog concept and a visual overview of past cooperation partners.

New Business Cards:

Then, I finally got my new business cards printed: the front side’s look is dominated by the new logo font and the pretty confetti image, the back side is printed with contact details. Anja and I chose white cardboard with a soft feel and look. Makes me so happy.
And for you to compare, here are the three generatrions of my business cards I had so far. :)

When looking at them all together, I think I still like the first one (which is about six years old) even better than the second one. It has more personality and better contrasts. It’s fun to see how some things change and some always stay the same.

So that’s it, new blog design, new overall look, but still Luloveshandmade. I’m happy and excited. Thank you for being part of my journey! :)

Today Is The Day For New Discoveries – Happy Springtime Activites

April 15, 2016

[Werbung:] Hello hello! I recently wrote an article with colorful ideas for grey April days for you for a cooperation with OTTO. We are still working together and this time, it is all about discovery, adventure and stepping out of your comfort zone.

Thus, I am today sharing ideas for happy springtime activities with you which are about trying something new and exploring the world. Have fun! :)

Today is the day: New discoveries with OTTO:

Springtime is finally here and we want to make it new! So what about trying out a new hobby? Get out a camera, learn by doing, teach it yourself. // Another idea is exploring the city and looking for streetart. It’s always about the tiny details and when you keep your eyes open, there’s so much to discover. You’ll see!

Every year in life is always gonna be more fantastic than the year before! Think positive, stay motivated and cherish every tiny success and small step. Life is good! // Explore urban spaces. Discover what’s around you! You don’t always have to travel far, adventure is just right around the corner…

Step out of your fashion comfort zone! Most of the time, we are stuck in our usual look and do not dare to try out something completely different. Maybe now is the right time! Explore your wardrobe, organize a clothes swap with friends, go thrifting or browse your fave shop. At least try out another combination of clothes, it’s fun! // In anticipation of this summer’s upcoming festival season, book tickets for your next music aventure. Thus, everyday life trouble seems way less important when you have a little adventure you can look forward to.

Discover your local flea markets. There’s so much to see: go treasure hunting and find tiny details to be happy about. Life is about constant exploration missions, those can easily be built into your everyday life routine! // Grab your phone and go on an exploration photo tour. Look trough your camera’s lens, discover new perspectives, angles and patterns. Urban life is so versatile!

What about exploring your neighbourhood on a board? Longboards are super beginner-friendly and there are many skater shops which offer test rides or even rent their boards on an hourly basis. Eeeeks, so much fun! // Discover your inner superhero! When going on everyday life adventures and facing challenges at work or in private life, things sometimes don’t seem easy. Never forget that you are strong and can be proud of yourself! There’s always a new way to explore which offers a new solution or perspective!
Let’s go outside, discover the world and face new adventures!
Happy day!
Lu

Ice Cream Printables and Ice Cream Sandwich Review

April 11, 2016

[Werbung:] Hooray, spring is here and it’s ice cream season! As most of you know, I have been working together with my fave ice cream brand for several times so far: back in 2014, I have been reporting from Ben & Jerry’s Taste & Tunes Tour, I tried their new flavors one year ago, I met Jerry himself last summer and I reported from Ben & Jerry’s Movie Night in Berlin and handed out ice cream cones from the ice cream truck. Whohooo!

This time, Ben & Jerry’s has again invited me for a cooperation and of course I was all in immediately! :)

To celebrate the beginning of this year’s ice cream season, I made three printables for you which you can download further down in this blogpost.

Ben & Jerry’s new ‘Cookie Dough ‘Wich’ Ice Cream Sandwhich

And of course it’s all about Ben & Jerry’s new kind of ice cream: the ‘Cookie Dough ‘Wich’, an absolutely fabulous ice cream sandwich with cookie dough flavor in between two cookie layers. Whuoah!
Apart from this, they also have two other new kinds of sandwich related ice cream: ‘Cookie Dough S’wich Up’ (vanilla ice cream pint with cacao-cookie-sandwich and cookie dough pieces) and the ‘Son of a…’Wich Sharepack’ (a smaller ice cream sandwich with vanilla ice cream and cacao bits, embraced by two chocolate-chip cookies), mhhh!

Ice Cream Printables and new Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Sandwich

So what about getting yourself some ice cream and inviting your loved ones for an ice cream date?
Decorate your home, let in spring weather and invite your friends to your first ice cream sandwich party! :) Otherwise, use the printables to take them out on an ice cream date and for a stroll trough the park!
Download the free printable: This is an ice cream date invitation.
Download the free printable: Ice cream party.

Mhhhh, ice cream between two cookie layers…
Download the free printable: You are sweeter than ice cream.

Have you already tried the new ice cream sandwich?
Those sandwiches are awesome and I really love them! BUT: what I love even more is cinnamon buns ice cream. ;) Undoubtedley, my fave flavor of all times. Mhhh!
If you want to see more about my past journey with Ben & Jerry’s, check out my previous postings on Instagram: #luloveshandmadeandbenandjerrys :)
Have fun with trying out the new ice cream sandwich and with the
printables! In case you share photos of them online, make sure to tag me
(@luloveshandmade) so that I can see your postings. :)
Enjoy spring and the upcoming oh so wonderful summer time! :)
Lu
P.S.: Although this blogpost was made for a cooperation with Ben & Jerry’s, this does not change the fact that everything I write is my personal opinion. Thanks! :)
P.P.S.: Pretty yarn by Garn & mehr, pretty hearty paper cups by Partyerie.
