Hey everyone, let’s get creative with a new DIY project, a pair of handpainted DIY espadrilles! Most of us are spending their summer at home and that’s why I wanted to get some extra summer vibes for everyday life.
Together with my partners of PILOT and their awesome PILOT PINTOR creative pens and their limited Happy Edition Sets, I embellished fabric espadrilles with a fruity orange pattern. I’ll show you how to make this yourself and you’ll only need very few supplies.

For past projects, I already used the PILOT PINTOR pens to design and embellish a whole festival outfit or to make IKEA hack DIY instruments. The year before, I used them for a longboard handlettering project for which I designed a longboard deck with the pens.
Here we go with this season’s summer vibe DIY which is part of PILOT’s awesome campaign about how to celebrate summer at home:

About Pilot PINTOR Creative Pens

To get started, here are a few awesome facts about the PILOT PINTOR creative pens. You can use them to draw on a huge variety of different surfaces and the pens come in 24 different colors. The pen colors are either bold and bright, or soft pastel colors and there are even awesome metallic nuances available. Either way, their opacity is amazing. They are meant to be used for nearly every purpose and nearly each surface, for example for paper, cardboard, wood, metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, porcelain and textiles. You can use them to write or draw on furniture, decor elements, accessories, cards and even walls! So many possibilities, you’ll never get bored!

Just recently for this summer, PILOT has launched limited special sets with pens, the Happy Edition Dancing Sunset and the Happy Edition Electric Sparkle. Those sets are perfect as gifts and when you want to get to know those awesome all-purpose pens and try them out for a specific project with a specific color scheme. The colors of the sets are perfectly matching with each other and are great for summer DIYs. You can exclusively get them in the PILOT webshop.
The best thing: when buying one of those two sets, you currently have the chance of winning one of hundred 100€ vouchers for eventim or mydays!
So here we go, let’s get started with our DIY!

Supplies for the Orange Espadrilles

What you need:
– Fabric espadrilles (pre-washed)
– PILOT PINTOR creative pens, for example the limited Happy Edition
– The PILOT drawing pen and some paper for sketches
– A hot iron

Embellishing Espadrilles with PILOT PINTOR Pens

First of all, use the drawing pen, your PILOT PINTOR creative pens and some paper for a first sketch. As you already know, the PINTOR pens write on several different surfaces and can be used for paper as well as for the fabric of the espadrilles.
At first, I couldn’t decide on a design and on a color scheme, so I made the sketch to visualize my ideas and to make the decision less difficult. I then wanted to go for the oranges and I love the green together with the orange.

Before you can draw onto the espadrilles, those should have been washed. When using the PILOT PINTOR creative pens on textiles, those should have been washed beforehand so that the color can better be applied to the fabric.

Then use the pens for drawing your pattern onto the shoes. Instead of espadrilles, you could also use normal fabric sneakers or even some made of leather.
When you are finished, let the color dry and later use a hot iron to seal the color. Use the hot iron at high temperature and with steam for about 10 to 15 seconds. Be careful with the heat if your espadrilles partly have rubber or plastic shoe soles as in my case.

That’s it, you’re done! Super quick and easy!

Have fun bringing your own summer vibes into your life, no matter if you’re spending your summer outside or if your home is your current summer destination!

And don’t forget: when you buy yourself one of those two limited Happy Edition sets, you currently have the chance of winning one of hundred 100€ vouchers for eventim or mydays! Yay!
Can’t wait to see if you and you will embellish some summer shoes yourself! Make sure to share the result on Instagram and tag me (@luloveshandmade) so that I can see your version!
